EDCO has converted its current Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered fleet to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) as a fuel source. Previously, EDCO’s CNG fleet was powered using traditional natural gas that is typically extracted miles beneath the surface.
RNG is an ultra-clean, ultra-low carbon natural gas alternative that is captured as organic matter decomposes in controlled environments. The methane gas is then processed, purified and distributed to EDCO’s nine natural gas fuel stations, including three public stations in Buena Park, La Mesa and San Marcos.
“While investing in CNG provided a significant emission reduction over traditional diesel and gasoline, RNG takes us to another level,” stated Steve South, President and Chief Executive Officer of EDCO. South went on to say, “EDCO’s conversion to RNG will provide a further reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) effects over the use of extracted natural gas.”
EDCO currently operates over 200 natural gas powered vehicles, including collection, transfer, flatbeds and pickup trucks. EDCO continues to invest in innovating methods of reducing its carbon footprint through advanced technology equipment and infrastructure.
